we journey together
We Journey Together is a film (watch by clicking the image below) and resource pack designed to challenge misconceptions, and increase awareness and understanding around the asylum system and the people within it, whose lives are impacted in every way by the asylum process. The entire project, including the film, was co-produced by GCP’s community members and Govan-based digital media charity, Plantation Productions, with support from the Glasgow South Health Improvement Team.
The project came out of a Participatory Action Research project with GCP community members which aimed to contribute towards community integration and development in Govan and beyond. The group were keen to explore the impact of Home Office hostile environment policies, and conducted research within the community through interviews and questionnaires. They decided to create a film which interwove testimonies of people’s asylum journeys to build understanding of the asylum and refugee experience. Plantation Productions supported the creation of the film, which in turn enabled participants to gain skills in media production.
The group then developed a resource pack with activities aiming to challenge stigma faced by asylum seekers. The resource pack is in the form of a toolkit with everything needed to facilitate a range activities relating to asylum seekers and discrimination. The pack was aimed at frontline workers, but is suitable for use in a variety of contexts.
